Orthopaedic pet bed company joins forces with national advocacy group to issue plea to vets

Orthopaedic pet bed supplier VetRelieve has joined forces with Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) to call on the veterinary profession to emphasise the importance of sleep in caring for dogs with arthritis.

CAM has endorsed VetRelieve’s OrthoLuxe Mattress, which uses pressure mapping from real dogs, making it the only orthopaedic dog bed company endorsed by the organisation.

With around 5.4 million dogs in the UK living with arthritis, says vet Lauren Davis, founder of VetRelieve, good quality sleep is an essential tool in arthritis management as it has a direct impact on inflammation and response to pain – especially as dogs spend around 50% of their lives asleep.

“During COVID, when working in the pressure care industry supplying orthopaedic mattresses to the NHS, I noticed – as a vet by trade – that there were no clinically tested orthopaedic beds for pets. The importance of sleep during recovery and for pain management is paramount and for a long time dog owners haven’t had the opportunity to adequately help their dogs to sleep as comfortably as they can.

“It is vital that vets and veterinary nurses are aware of the significance of sleep and proactively advise pet owners on the best ways to manage their dogs’ arthritis.”

CAM founder Dr Hannah Capon comments: “The OrthoLuxe Mattress is a significant innovation in the world of canine arthritis management and a testament to the work that Lauren and her team have put in.

“VetRelieve has filled a hole in the UK market, creating the first clinically tested orthopaedic dog bed and it will help dog owners across the country to ensure their dogs are better cared for than before. With our endorsement, we encourage vets and veterinary nurses to highlight the impact of these mattresses and educate their customers on the importance of sleep for pain relief.”
